Its time to take care of me. This has been my meditation for the last six months and I plan to carry it through the new year and beyond.
Because when I take care of me, I am able to do the things I love and the things I am meant to do in the world.
I thought about writing a holiday post for you all- how not to make your Great Aunt’s comments mean anything about you, how to create loving boundaries and new traditions etc. And Im sure that would have been wonderful.
But taking care of me this holiday meant resting. Being quiet. Getting into my body and just being.
It was also spending time with family. One of my favorite holiday traditions that I want to continue on my life is to be with family and focus on family. It was amazing to see my three year old experience the magic of Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Advent and Christmas. He is old enough now to appreciate the stories and the magic and the celebration of light in the darkness. Through his child eyes I am able to experience these things anew myself.
The question keeps repeating in my mind:
What if doing what I am meant to do in life means less doing?
-Less hustle, less “productivity,” less work for work’s sake
And More BEING:
-More stillness and gratitude
-More stillness and love
-More appreciation, more joy
Another lesson for me this year is learning I am adult and I can do what I want. I can steward my time. If this is true, what do I CHOOSE to do? How do I CHOOSE to take care of my body? I have created the habit of consistent sleep about 8 hours on average a night. I have almost completely stopped drinking alcohol- because I don’t want to! CRAZY but amazing. I choose to create time in my week to spend with my family and also time to coach and catch up with friends. I get to decide what kind of doctor I want to be. What kind of mother I want to be. What kind of wife I want to be. This has been so freeing.
